An Eagle Cake & A Pie From Scratch

Why hello! Would you all like to see some of my recent kitchen accomplishments? I thought you might. First stop, my very first pie from scratch.
I had never made a real pie crust before, & I was so pleasantly surprised at how easy it was!
Here's the story. I was bugging Bryce about having "favorites" because he always just "likes everything" but I want him to have favorites so that I can make things special for him. So I was like, "come on, I wan't to make you your favorite treat! What is your very favorite treat?" & he said, "well my favorite treat is pie..." all apologetically. Because I hate pie. & I don't make pie. So then I felt like a huge jerk because I, of course, new his favorite dessert was pie & still had never made it for him in our 3+ years of marriage. So, the next morning while he was home teaching I set out to make my first homeade pie. He was so excited :).
It actually turned out pretty yummy if I do say so myself.

Kitchen exploit #2: The eagle cake
So my lovely mother-in-law Colleen is the eagle cake expert. She made them for all her eagle scouts & because they are so awesome one for pretty much all the people who beg her to. Ever since the first time I helped her make one I was so excited to make one for Tanner.
Well the big day was this last Sunday. I can't believe how grown up Tanner is. It has been so fun lately watching him start & play in his basketball games, slay it on the drums & now become an eagle scout.
Oh, & when did he get taller than me?! We are so proud of Tanner & what an awesome young man he has become. It was so fun to make this cake & he was pretty stoked about it. Everyone at the eagle court loved it, it was so cute to see all the little boys crowding around the table & pointing at it. Colleen thanks so much for all your help & expertise! You're the best!!!
